Submission Guidelines

Weave Magazine is CLOSED to all submissions
We will reopen April 15, 2010
In the meantime...

We very strongly recommend that you BUY A COPY of Weave before submitting to get a better idea of what we are looking for -- it really does help. Also, running a print publication is an expensive venture, and we would appreciate your support! If not you, then who?

General Guidelines:
  • Please submit work via email attachment to weavezine@gmail.com
  • In the subject line include the following: Submission: [genre] - [first name] [last name] (Submission: Poetry- Hannah Gordon)
  • Written submissions use a rich text file (.rtf) or Microsoft Word document (.doc file type only) and include your name in the header so it appears on all pages of your work.
  • Visual art submissions should be a high resolution image file (ie: .jpg) or as a scanned Adobe document (.pdf).
  • Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, but we ask that you PLEASE inform us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere so we can celebrate with you.
  • Please submit only ONCE per reading period, unless the editors request otherwise.
  • Please do not query before three months have passed.
Specific Guidelines:

Poetry

  • Submit 3-5 poems at a time. (Seriously. 3-5 poems. Not 6. 6 is not within the 3-5 range.)
  • There is no official line limit to poetry; if your six page poem is amazing it would be considered, however it's probably not that amazing.
Fiction
  • Unsolicited submissions should be no longer than 1500 words
  • For pieces longer than 1500, please submit a query letter and include the title, word count and a basic synopsis of the piece.
  • No genre fiction please
  • Please please please avoid sending fiction within the body of your e-mail! It is difficult to reformat and we'll just need a .doc or .rtf file from you if we accept your work anyway.
Creative Non-fiction
  • Unsolicited submissions should be no longer than 1500 words
  • For pieces longer than 1500, please submit a query letter and include the title, word count and a basic synopsis of the piece.
  • Same as above in regards to the file type. .doc or .rtf.
Flash Fiction
  • Submit up to 3 pieces at once
Short Plays
  • One Acts/Monologues
  • Not to exceed 4000 words
  • .rtf or .doc
Visual Art
  • B&W Photography, pen and ink drawing, digital fine art
  • FYI: At this time, Weave Magazine has no plans to print in color, except for the cover artwork which we have already solicited for.

No previously published work, please! - (by Weave's definition, a piece has been previously published if it has appeared in another journal, either paper or electronic, in a book or chapbook - even a self-published one - or is currently online in a public blog or on a public forum)

Payment: Unfortunately, we cannot afford to be a paying market at this time. However, all contributors will receive one free copy of the issue that their work appears in.

Notice: If your work has been published by Weave Magazine, please allow for two issues to be published before resubmitting, even if you are submitting in a different genre. For example, if you are published in issue 01, you may resubmit for issue 04.

Feel free to contact us at weavezine@gmail.com if you have any questions regarding the submission process.

Hello fellow Pittsburgh ladies! Tilt Press is simply smitten over your link to our Press - we will be creating a page on our website for such links and of course, Weave will be there.

We appreciate your support!

What's your definition of flash fiction? Your fiction limit is 1500 which is pretty low, almost in flash fiction territory. Any piece that is less than 1500 probably stands a good chance of being flash fiction. IMHO

Hi Sue, We tend to define flash fiction as anything under 1000 words. We are open to an author calling something over 1000 words flash fiction for more stylistic reasons or otherwise.

Hey, it looks like I just missed a reading period. Does that mean the next one started?... or is there a "do not submit" block of time? Thx
